What to do when you can’t cover your rent

This month, I found that I can’t cover my rent. Since my student loan came due, I had to pay for that and it was unexpected. I’ve been applying for PT jobs here and there, but I just know that I don’t need one. I don’t have the energy to do two jobs again. Especially since the last week in August, I’d have to quit because school starts. Anywho, since I haven’t been late EVER in the year I’ve been here, I am just going to pay late. I have enough in my account to pay $300 of the $400 so I’m going to earn interest on it in my ING account until I have the rest of it. My landlord is pretty understanding. I will not take the money out of my E-Fund to pay it. Yes it’s an emergency, but I should be out of the bind by the end of next month. I don’t do any unnecessary spending so it should be fine.

What are some of the things you do when you’re in a pinch like this?

Apology in Advance

So, I apologize in advance for the quality of my posts lately. I’ve been trying to find a second job to supplement my income for the next three months. I have checked out books from the library so that I may move forward with my quest for my own business. I learned yesterday that people WILL pay for services that they don’t want to do, or don’t have the time to do. It’s definitely a great idea. I’ll have to come up with some contracts for services.

Hopefully, the money won’t be an issue anymore. I’m struggling to live paycheck to paycheck again. I am still putting $50/month into my E-Fund. So that’s good. Any suggestions, please!

Need to find some secondary income

I’m thinking about starting my own concierge business. I don’t really know what’s involved in this, but I am sure it is something I can find on the internet. Basically, I want to do people’s errands for them. Groceries, dry cleaning, car washes, etc. I have a Credit Card I could use to do the purchases, but I’m not sure how to bill the client. Obviously, I want to make money at this. Has anyone done this before?

In the meantime, I’m going to apply for summer jobs ANYWHERE!!!! I need extra money now, not yesterday. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Why I care about Personal Finance

What seems like a million years ago, I got my first car. 1988 Suzuki Samurai. I had a part-time job during high school at McDonalds to pay for it. It was great. My first car. I felt so independent. Little did I know that it gave me the freedom to get myself into financial trouble.

Subsidized vs. Unsubsidized Student Loans

For a long time now, I’ve wondered what the difference is between the two was and I finally took the time to research it.

Subsidized Student loans are based on financial need and the government pays the interest while you are in school.

Unsubsidized Student loans are NOT based on financial need. Interest accrues from the time the loan is taken out, and you are charged interest on the interest! The best way to minimize the interest charged is to pay it when as it accrues.

I do have both types of loans, mostly unsubsidized. This sucks in a major way, as you can see from the definitions above. If I could figure out how to pay the loans that are unsubsidized first while putting off the subsidized loans, I would. It’s not that simple though. My loans are serviced by two companies. They are both involved in the Student Loan Scandal. So when I pay the bill, they pay the loan they see fit to pay first. I have no choice in the matter.

Anyways, at least now I know the difference, and will work the second job to help pay off the loans. *sigh* Sometimes I feel like I’m in a sinking black hole of debt and I’m never going to get out.

Someday I will post about why I care about PF as promised.

I finally did it….submitted a resume

Well, I finally bit the bullet. My primary gig is cutting back majorly on OT. I used to bank about 4 -6 hours OT per 2 week pay period. That’s come to an end. And my wallet feels it the most. It’s about $200/month less than I am used to. On one hand, I like only working 8 hours a day, but on the other hand, I really need the money.

On that note, I scoured the classifieds yesterday and found this pretty decent job at a local hotel. It’s either part time or full time, but the pay is $8.50/hour (which is great for a part-time gig that isn’t in fast food.) I’m just hoping that it pans out. The kid at the front desk when I went in to grab the application said that the hotel is really hurting for help, kinda hints that they’ll hire just about anything right about now. Keeping my fingers crossed.
